10 Ways To Add Class To Your RestaurantNot every restaurant owner is looking to run an upscale establishment. For those that are, there are some important changes that need to be made.

The Food

Improving your food by using artisanal, organic and high-end ingredients can add a touch of class to your most important asset. Special attention should be paid to the presentation of your dishes. Additionally, ensuring your kitchen staff is consistent and well-trained can make a significant difference in the quality of your dishes.

The Menu

When you look at a menu from a fine dining establishment, you will notice several differences when compared to that of a chain restaurant. Your menu should not include pictures or outlandish designs. You do want to include detailed descriptions of your menu items along with an overview of the ingredients and history of the dish.

Furniture

Your tables and chairs should be well-maintained and made of quality materials. Everything should be clean and free from wear and tear.

Table Settings

High-quality table cloths, silverware, glassware and dishware are all important ingredients to an upscale dining experience. Cloth napkins, and not paper, are a must.

Wine List

Having a robust wine list will not only add a bit of class to your restaurant, it can greatly increase revenue. Wine tends to have high margins and are an easy upsell if your waitstaff knows their stuff.

Lighting

You want to have ample soft lighting that matches the décor of your restaurant. Make sure all fixtures are cleaned regularly and that you don’t have any flickering lights. Offering a candlelight option is a nice touch as well.

Décor

The décor of your restaurant will be largely dependent on your them. However, if you’re looking to add a bit of class, you’ll want to avoid signs and tacky memorabilia. Nice window treatments, plants and flowers can do wonders for the appearance of your restaurant.

Restrooms

An important step in upscaling your restaurant is to update your bathroom facilities. They should be done in neutral colors and well maintained. Adding flowers, mints and other commonly needed items will help to improve the ambiance.

Uniforms

Outfitting your staff in formal uniforms will immediately give your restaurant the feel of an upscale establishment. While you may get some initial pushback from your staff, this is an important aspect of fine dining.

Flooring

You’ll want to avoid carpet, linoleum and tile.  In most cases, your best choice is going to be hardwoods.  If that is outside of your budget, there are some very nice wood laminate options as well.
