5 Spring Cleaning Tips For Your Specialty Retail ShopDon’t underestimate the impact a clean shop can have on your business. Weekly and monthly cleanings should take place, but performing a deep clean once a year can breathe new life into your store. Here are five spring cleaning tips for your specialty retail shop.

Organize Your Stockroom

Organizing and cleaning your stockroom is an important step in your yearly spring cleaning. While you are doing this, it is a good idea to update your inventory records and determine where you have a surplus. These items can be used as a part of promotional bundles to help clear out inventory.  Keeping your stock room clean and organized will ensure you don’t end up with too much overstock and that your items in storage don’t become damaged.

Improve Your Air Quality

Air quality has a tremendous impact on health as well as atmosphere. Clearing all of the dust from your light fixtures and shelves is an important first step. You’ll also want to clear out all of your vents and consider hiring a company to vacuum out your air conditioning system. Replace all filters as needed and consider investing in an air purifier. Air quality is an underrated aspect of your overall atmosphere and should be tended to regularly.

Deep Clean From Floor To Ceiling

Dust your ceilings, wipe down your walls and clean your floors. If you have carpeting, you may want to hire a company to shampoo and steam clean them as layers of dirt can become trapped over time. All counters and shelves should be cleaned and disinfected.  Windows should be washed and restrooms should be thoroughly cleaned. If you have an employee break room, the same care should be taken with that.

Revamp Your Exterior

Exterior signage and windows should be cleaned. Power washing your outside façade and any walkways that lead to your entrance is also a good idea. Any vegetation should be trimmed, removed or replaced and weeds should be pulled. The exterior of your store provides the first impression for many of your customers and a messy can be a deterrent to foot traffic. Anything that is damaged should be repaired and outdated signs should be replaced.

Organize Your Back Office

Organizing your back office will include cleaning up any loose files, reorganizing your cabinets and even cleaning up your digital records. Removing clutter can have a big impact on productivity as well as your overall mood when working in your office. You’ll want to clear out your desk drawers and remove all non-essential items. Once you’ve done so, you can add a few things back, but be careful not to add too much clutter.
