5 Ways To Make Owning A Small Business Fun AgainYour level of success as a small business owner will hinge largely on the energy and enthusiasm that you bring to work each day.  Owning a small business is a dream for many and it’s important that you enjoy what you’re doing.  The monotony of menial tasks and dealing with issues as they arise can be deflating, but it comes with the territory.  Taking steps to make running your business fun will improve your mental state as well as the health of your business.  Here we’ve identified 5 ways to make owning a small business fun again.

Be Hands-On

Taking a hands-on approach and being involved with the day to day operation of your business is not only beneficial to your bottom line, it can bring great enjoyment.  Chances are you started your business because you wanted to make a living doing something you love.  Many owners pull themselves away from daily operations over time.  Jumping back in with both feet can be exciting and rewarding.

Get To Know Your Employees

Building camaraderie with your staff and getting to know them a bit on a personal level will help to remind you why you’re doing what you’re doing.  Relationships are what make work fun.  Getting to know your staff will have a positive effect on employee morale and improve the overall atmosphere of your business.  You may find that these relationships make it so you can’t wait to get to work in the morning.

Host Events

Events are a great opportunity to bring in new business and connect with your customers.  While not every industry lends itself to events and space can be an issue, hosting an event can be an extremely enjoyable experience.  Having live entertainment, refreshments and a theme will make your events attractive to potential customers and fun for you and your staff.

Delegate Tasks

While some owners make the mistake of completely removing themselves from daily operations, others take on far too many tasks that are best delegated to your staff.  Taking on too much can have a negative impact on your performance and will give your staff the impression that you don’t trust them to do their jobs.  Delegating some of your tasks to your employees will take a bit of the pressure off of you and allow you to focus on growing and enjoying your business.

Take Time Off

In order to stay fresh and effective in your role as owner, sometimes you need to step away and unplug.  This doesn’t always mean a 2-week vacation.  Simply taking your evenings or weekends to spend time alone or with friends and family will allow you to recharge your batteries.  Schedule time for relaxation the same way you would set aside time for business tasks.
