sweets-887722_1920The neighborhood bakery does a lot of things right. They are simple things, and they go beyond their daily fresh bread, and delicious pastries. Customers enjoy going to the corner bakery because after only a few visits, the staff knows your face, and what you're going to order. The industry has been changing in recent years, and as a whole, is moving toward offerings such as healthy baked goods and high-quality, artisanal products.

Host an event

Because the local bakery is competing with large grocery chains, you will need to identify what makes you unique to your local consumers.  One way is to host a benefit for a local non-profit organization.  Advertise this with a press release in your local media at least a week before the event, and again two days prior to the date.  Offer an incentive, such as a small discount.  Supporting your community is a great way to build traffic and see new faces.

Free Samples

You can tempt your customer with simple and cost effective methods.  Open your doors! People walking by smelling your delicious baked goods is free and effective.  You can offer free samples to the public.  Word of mouth can be your best friend.  A local shopper can tell a handful of friends, coworkers, and acquaintances how delicious your baked goods are.

Atmosphere

A bakery should be a warm and friendly place.  Welcome your visitors with a genuine friendly greeting.  This will keep them coming back.  Everyone likes to visit a vendor that knows them by name.  It is equally important to showcase your items in clean, well organized cases.  Your venue décor could correlate with your packaging.  Using these methods of branding can help you stand out and be recognized easily.

Photos

Create your own  eye catching menu that includes enticing photos.  A “Yummy” photo can create the desire to try something new. Make a point to highlight your specialty items.  You can post holiday treats, or highlight a weekly special.  Another way to visually impress your patrons is to use a signature method of packaging.  Pick your colors carefully, and make sure your store name and general information is displayed clearly.  If someone is carrying a bag of your fresh cookies, you want everyone to recognize it.

Be social

Your online presence is essential.  Having a thorough social media strategy is the bast place to start. Keep your customers in the loop by making your company easily accessible through social media channels like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest.  A professional website can make a strong first impression, and help potential customers find you easily.  Your website should be clear and contain accurate contact information.  Also include any special events or promotions you participate in.  Do you offer gift baskets? Do you cater for weddings?  Include the ability to order online.  The more information you provide on your website, the more comfortable customers will be placing orders. This also creates a sense of trust with potential customers.

Remember, it is up to you to make your bakery brand memorable enough to attract new business and to keep them coming back for more.  Baking may be your passion, but promoting your fantastic delicacies can be satisfying as well.  Using these tips can be a helpful guideline that you can build on in your own unique way.
