Celebrate National Small Business WeekNational Small Business week is celebrated during the first week of May every year to honor the small business owners of our country who have brought new ideas to life and helped grow our economy.

Small Business By The Numbers

  1. There are approximately 32 million small businesses in the U.S. and they make up 99% of all the businesses in the country.

  2. Millennials and Generation Z are 188% more likely to start their own businesses than baby boomers.

  3. More than 50% of all small businesses fail during the first year.

  4. 42% of businesses that fail do so because there is no demand for their product or service.

  5. Since the pandemic began, 31% of all small businesses have closed.

Why Celebrate Small Business Week

It honors success - Any small business that has managed to keep the doors open during the first year is already doing better than most. This week provides the perfect stage to honor these successful entrepreneurs.

It increases awareness - Small businesses have made significant contributions to the U.S. economy by generating wealth and creating employment. Small businesses create approximately 1.5 million jobs every year.

It spotlights small business contribution to the local economy - Small businesses support the local economy, create jobs and fulfilling the needs of the people living in these towns. These business owners see a gap in the market in their community and try to fill it with what is needed.

How to Celebrate Small Business Week

If you are a consumer - Buy something from a small local business in your community and share a story on social media about the excellent service you received from a small business in your community.

If you own a small business - Proudly share your story with your local press and on social media to encourage others to be self-employed or to learn from your experience. Be sure to say thanks to the people who’ve supported you.
