Celebrating Independence Day While Social Distancing

Celebrating Independence Day While Social DistancingIndependence Day, also known as the 4th of July, is a day that many Americans enjoy showing off their patriotic garb while partaking in festivals, parades, large BBQs, and attending large displays of patriotism with huge firework shows. During a pandemic, none of these ways to celebrate is really considered safe. Therefore many people have to find a way to celebrate the holiday with their families without putting anybody at risk. Here are a few ideas to help you celebrate your favorite summer holidays this year.

Have Your Own Display

With safety in mind, and of course taking local laws and ordinances into account, lighting your own fireworks and setting them off can be a lot of fun for you and your family. Firework stands typically offer a variety of fireworks for everyone’s taste. They have everything from sparkers to the large rockets that burst in the sky. While it’s not a huge display that you may be used to, it will still be a lot of fun. Remember to clean up after you’re done, and take care not to leave anything smoldering.

Drive Up Fireworks

One creative way a lot of cities, churches, and businesses are still planning on having fireworks displays is by having “drive-up fireworks.” Essentially, you would remain in your vehicle for the show, and watch from there, a lot like a drive-in theater. You can bring your own snacks and refreshments and enjoy the AC in your car while waiting for the show. Check your local area to see which shows will still be taking place in this manner and pick which one you will enjoy most.

Small Gathering

If there is a small group of individuals that you feel it is safe, or very low risk to be around, a small outdoor gathering may be a fun way to celebrate. The people you should invite are people that you already have regular contact with, to avoid unnecessary exposure to any illnesses. This would be your co-workers, your family, etc. It is important to remember that each state and county has set guidelines for gathering sizes, and it is important to follow those, as well as continuing to maintain a safe distance while possible, and wear a face-covering when it is not.

Go Camping

Camping can be a great little getaway to celebrate the 4th while staying away from the general public. Many Lakes, rivers, and beaches have camping areas that can accommodate RVs and primitive tent camping. You can also rent a cabin at many of these places and go “glamping.” BE prepared to bring your own food source and plenty of sunscreen for all of the outdoor activities that your destination may offer.
