How To Capitalize On The Super Bowl As A Small Business

20160223012617-football-nfl-2We know that not every business, especially the small one, can afford to shell out millions of dollars for a few seconds of air time during the super bowl. Beyond the actual time slot cost, the production costs that go into creating a commercial fit for the one night a year that people actually enjoy watching commercials are hefty. That being said, small businesses can still cash in on game day celebrations. Here’s how:

Restaurants

Having a game day super bowl celebration is a great way to bring in customers who will likely stay, drink and eat for several hours. You can offer a wider variety of appetizers and a special on domestic beer that is hard to resist. People will love having a place to go where they not only don’t have to cook, but they also don’t have to clean up. That is a huge plus for a lot of spouses that usually host.

Clothing Stores

Gameday outfits for men and women can be a top seller for clothing stores. Even if your store isn’t the type to sell jerseys or t-shirts, you can still offer a few hand-picked outfits that coordinate with specific teams in the playoffs or would just be super cute to wear to a super bowl party. If your store does offer jerseys and t-shirts, make sure you have plenty of options for opponents and even some neutral shirts for those who aren’t picking sides for the game.

Specialty Grocery

Owning a small grocery store means that you won’t always have a selection the size of Walmart, but what you do offer is meaningful and specific. That works perfectly for events like the super bowl. You can sell premade dips, stock chips, and appetizers that you know will be a big selling item, and you can even stock football-themed plates, napkins, and other disposables for the big game. People will love not going into big box stores to grab the items they need.

Liquor Stores

One of the most important components of a great super bowl party, aside from the food, is the drinks! Having a good selection of popular “football watching beverages” in stock is going to be a good move for your store. It is important to remember that not everyone at a super bowl party drinks alcohol, so including the option of sodas and non-alcoholic beer and wines is an excellent way to sell more beverages and meet your customer’s needs.

Bakery

Football-themed baked goods are a fun little niche you may find yourself in around this time of year. Cakes, cupcakes, and other fun-themed items can be a huge seller if marketed right. Many people have enough cooking and prepping going into party planning that desserts and pasties can be forgotten until the last minute, leaving a big window for profit for your bakery.
