Many retail outlets invest in same-day shipping

Online retailers need to constantly be investing in ways to improve their service and create innovations within the sector.

One way that many companies are doing this is by cutting down on the amount of time customers have to wait to receive their products after conducting a transaction at an online payment processing terminal. Fancy, a social commerce platform, recently began offering its shoppers the option to receive their products on the same day they complete their transaction, according to a report from TechCrunch. The company began a trial testing the program earlier this year, and found that customers reacted quite positively.

"We have existing customers who shop with us daily and needed this option," a Fancy spokesperson told the news outlet.

Fancy isn't the only company cutting down on the time that separates online transactions at payment processing terminals and order deliveries. Google debuted its same-day delivery service to Bay Area shoppers last month, often delivering products mere hours after the transaction has been completed, according to a report from the San Jose Mercury News. Tom Fallows, the head of Google Shopping Express, told the news outlet that the addition was a "long time coming," and had been requested by a high volume of online shoppers/

Even eBay is making use of same-day deliveries
EBay, another online shopping giant, has begun offering same-day shipping options to its customers, even allowing them to select the specific time the product will be delivered. According to a report from CNET, any orders placed during the day can now be delivered by the evening - for example, an individual could order a product anytime during the work day, and elect to have it delivered to their doorstep at 6:30 PM.

eBay President Devin Wenig told the news outlet that this was an important step in terms of optimizing the company's omnichannel offerings.

"What you saw today is how we're bringing together online and offline ... how we're bringing together need and love," Wenig said, according to CNET. "Each of them is powerful. Together they're the future of shopping."

The news outlet reports that eBay's same-day shipping service - known as eBay Now -is currently available to shoppers in Chicago. The program will be rolled out to include at least 25 new cities during 2014, and may expand further in the future dependent on its success.
