Online exposure can help drive business

As more Americans use their smartphones on a regular basis, more are choosing to employ the devices to shop - and they're purchasing products en masse. A recent report from the News Observer displays just how much minor internet exposure can drive sales for online merchant accounts.

According to the report, Raleigh, North Carolina-based jeweler JousJous saw their sales skyrocket after they were featured on Amazon home page, showing how online payment processing capabilities can give businesses the opportunity to achieve much higher profit margins. The company saw their daily online sales jump from an average of six to 12 pieces a day to, in one 24-hour period, sales of nearly 500 units.

"It was a huge boost obviously," declared Herman Moyano, co-founder of the company. His firm donates 10 percent of its sales to breast cancer research - so the spike in e-commerce sales has helped him and his community.

After one year of selling their products via Amazon, the company had experienced a sales increase of over 1,000 percent. Had they directed all traffic to online payment processing on their own website, it's possible that the gains from revenue could have been even larger.

Mobile users across the country are becoming more and more comfortable with the idea of paying for and purchasing items online. Earlier this year, Harris Interactive conducted a study that found that customers value the convenience of online shoppingto such an extent that the perceived potential for fraud doesn't deter their interest.

Jumio's study states that mobile customers are well aware of the potential for fraud, but the convenience offered by online shopping outweighs their concern. The findings suggest that consumer reliance on smartphones for the sake of making purchases will only increase over the coming years.
