modern-auto-technician1Automobile technology is evolving quickly, and auto-repair shops must adapt to continue to delight their customers.

In fact, USA Today recently reported that “A typical car may have 20 or more microprocessors working together, each running software with thousands of lines of code to control vital systems.”

Does your business have the auto repair tools necessary to service contemporary, state-of-the-art vehicles?

Sophisticated Vehicles

"What's changed significantly in the last few years in how cars are built - technological advancements in automobile manufacturing means that car sections are now geometrically connected," says Chris Greulich who owns Greulich's Automotive, an auto repair business based in Scottsdale, Ariz. "No longer are repairs on just the front, back and sides. Front end collisions, for example, can bring about damage to back end systems, purely because of the way cars are now being built."

Automobiles have joined the digital revolution. There are computers controlling primary components of cars, even the brakes and the steering wheel. It is often the case that when mechanics work on a car, a computer is one of the most essential auto repair tools. This can be difficult for technicians who lack the proper software, hardware, and training.

Furthermore, while automotive diagnostic and repair technology has grown, so has the demand for skilled mechanics. The Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that demand for automotive service technicians will grow 9 percent from 2012 to 2022.

The simple fact of the matter is this: Mechanics are now faced with an opportunity. Those that embrace change by learning how to work with the latest auto repair tools and technology will surely see growth as new cars become used and require maintenance and repair.
