Trick Or Treating Do's And Don'tsWhether you are planning on handing out candy or making the rounds in your neighborhood asking the age-old question “trick or treat,” there are a few important things to note about the holiday. Here are the “do’s and don’ts” for Halloween.

Don’t scare small children.

This could ruin the holiday for them and make them not want to participate in future Halloween fun in years to come.

Do scare older children and adults.

Use caution but taking part in this kind of Halloween fun can be thrilling for both the scare -er and scare-e.

Don’t discriminate against older children trick or treating.

Beyond realizing there are far worse things that teenagers could be doing on Halloween night than asking their neighbors for candy, it is also important to understand that every child is unique. Their size is not always an indicator of having matured out of trick or treating.

Do offer candy and treats to everyone that comes to your door.

As long as you have not run out, be kind and happily give your treats. Not every child is able or outgoing enough to say “trick or treat,” or “please,” and “thank you.”

Don’t limit your treats allergen containing candy.

Some children cannot have peanuts. Some cannot have dairy. Some cannot have wheat. And so on and so forth. Offering toys and allergen-friendly candy makes it so all kids can be included in the holiday.

Do use a teal pumpkin.

Teal pumpkins indicate that you are a house that has allergen-friendly treats or toys. Having it in plain view will make it known that people with allergies can stop by.

Don’t cross the road without looking both ways.

Halloween accidents can easily be prevented by both drivers and those out walking about. Use sidewalks when possible and look both ways when crossing any streets.

Do practice safety.

Go over basic safety procedures with your children and wear glow sticks so you can easily be seen at night.

The main goal of trick-or-treating is to remain safe and have fun. Be safe, and have a great Halloween!
