Your Mindset Determines Your Level Of Small Business SuccessHaving the right mindset can make the difference between success and failure in small business.  Not only that, it can determine your level of success.  If your aim is to thrive rather than just survive, you’ll need to take the following tips to heart.

Continued Growth

“A "growth" mindset indicates a person who responds to a challenge by embracing effort and training instead of relying on his or her innate abilities.” Inc.

Successful small business owners, and successful people for that matter, all have one thing in common, they never stop learning.  The digital age has brought about drastic changes in every industry and every business, big or small.  Your willingness and ability to keep up with the latest trends and information will make or break your business.  Knowledge is what will separate you from the competition.

Fearless Decision Making

“If you are making all your decisions from a consequences model (ie place of fear) than you may be short changing your business.” – Bloom Hustle Grow

To be successful you cannot operate from a position of fear and survival.  In order to prosper you need to take risks.  When an opportunity arises, whether it be an inventory purchase, networking event or expansion, you need to at least explore it.  While you do want to make educated and calculated decisions, you need to let loose and seize opportunities.  As the saying goes, “nothing risked, nothing gained”.

Self-Motivation

“When you have your own business, there’s no boss or manager to tell you what to do and when to do it.  To get your business off and running you’ll have to motivate yourself to get things started.” - Yvonne A. Jones

If you can’t motivate yourself, you stand very little chance of motivating your staff.  Running a small business is a lot of work and it takes consistent effort to achieve any level of success.  Finding ways to motivate yourself aside from outside influences like money, family or the fear of failure is vital to maintaining a proper mindset on a daily basis.  Find out what makes you tick and build habits around those things to keep yourself motivated.

Consistent Positivity

“The more positive you are with your customers, the stronger your relationship will be and you may develop more business with them.” – Dream Fearlessly

The importance of staying positive in business cannot be overstated.  Not only does it help you to get through your day, it impacts your customers and staff.  A good attitude from a leader can motivate your team and make you more relatable to your customers.  If a customer is greeted with a negative or uninviting attitude, there is very little chance they will return to your establishment.  Just one bad day could be a customer’s first, and last, impression of you and your company.  Furthermore, this may lead to negative online reviews, which can quickly sink a small business.
